On February 14, 2005, Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim officially debuted it. After Google Search, it is the second most frequented website and is presently owned by Google.

    Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim developed YouTube. The three were early PayPal workers, which made them wealthy once eBay acquired the business. Chen and Karim studied computer science together at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, while Hurley had studied design at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

    An account that has appeared often in the media is that Hurley and Chen came up with the concept for YouTube in the first few months of 2005 after having trouble uploading movies they had recorded at a dinner party at Chen's residence in San Francisco. Chen said that the myth that YouTube was formed after a meal was rejected by Karim, who did not attend the gathering.
